Learning Event Description
About Six Sigma: Six Sigma is a time-proven method of continuous process improvement that is applicable to all facets of the enterprise. Six Sigma has been around so long that it has weathered most corporate "immune systems" to take hold in nearly every industry.
Six Sigma is here to stay and is having a huge impact on information technology organizations. The names may change by industry; in healthcare, Black Belts are often called Guides, and the US Military has committed tremendous amounts of energy and resources to Lean Six Sigma. Many business services companies and application development organizations are looking at it as a requirement, because their customers are using Six Sigma and driving it out into their supply chain to service providers. Six Sigma started at Motorola and has gained significant prominence at GE and Allied Signal as these large manufacturing
leaders applied it to significant business improvement and performance. Application to other industries is well underway too, especially in some leading hospitals. As companies strive to become better, and operate cheaper and faster, Six Sigma makes a lot of sense. It is now a universal methodology to attack inefficiencies in business processes, measure errors and eliminate them. Any process, shop floor or back office, can be a target for improvement; the ability to measure errors and remove them is a universal theme.
