DAYTON, OHIO -- The University of Dayton announces
that the Research Institute at UD has received the first
delivery order under the DESP II contract, worth $1.35
million over the coming year. Paul Piechota of the
Information Technology Group (part of the Aerospace
Mechanics Division), and Executive Director of the
Center for Competitive Change, serves as the principal
investigator for this work.
The UDRI Team will be helping the Air Force Materiel
Command Scientist and Engineering vocations (AFMC/EN)
face one of its greatest human resources challenges: the
loss to retirement of as much as 60% of its top
scientists and engineers over the next three to five
years. The AFMC Engineering Team wants to minimize the
accompanying loss of intellectual capital by developing
an online capability for capturing and storing knowledge
for transfer to younger workers. In the first phase of
the project, UDRI will conduct research, perform
analyses, ensure validation, and document findings, all
aimed at the future development of a process-based
knowledge and competency mapping learning solution. The
competency map will be designed to support both the
management of customized science and engineering
training and competencies/templates, which will
facilitate the capture and transfer of knowledge amongst
AFMC’s scientists and engineers.
Both the Information Technology and Human Factors
groups at UDRI will be contributing to this research,
while working with one of the Centers key partner’s,
TiER1 Performance Solutions, an e-learning company from
Covington KY (www.tier1performance.com).
The Center for Competitive Change will continue to
strengthen its relationships with their new customer and
support the commercial customers with similar needs. Our
clients will always be our first priority and with this
team of UDRI and TiER1 Performance Solutions. We believe
this project will be highly successful.
