NATIONAL CITY MORTGAGE LAUNCHES ALL-SPANISH WEBSITE FOR HISPANIC CUSTOMERS
July 23, 2007
DAYTON, Ohio ─ National City Mortgage customers who speak Spanish now have a website entirely for themselves.
With the help of the University of Dayton, National City Mortgage has launched an all-Spanish prototype website. The website will provide Hispanic-American customers most of the same benefits that the English website provides.
The website is intended to assist National City Mortgage address the needs of their Hispanic-American customers. It will also educate, while in a familiar environment, those Hispanic-Americans unfamiliar with everyday banking.
The bank enlisted the help of the University of Dayton’s Business Research Group to conduct focus groups for the website. What was found was that even those Hispanic-Americans who read some English prefer a website more suited towards their primary language. This finding, along with National City Mortgage’s dedication to customer service, was reason enough to launch the all-Spanish website.
“Not understanding the exact meaning of a word can be very intimidating, especially when a person is on the point of investing a great deal of money. With this website, Hispanics will be able to read terms in Spanish, rather than having to verify each word in a bilingual dictionary,” commented Clara Delgado, director of the English Language and Multicultural Institute (EMLI) at the University of Dayton, which assisted in the cultural suggestions in color scheme, photography choice, layout and translation for the website. The website was designed and built by The University of Dayton Research Institute’s (UDRI) Information Technology Group.
National City Mortgage, along with the University of Dayton, sees the website as not only as a way to better serve their customers, but also as a direct sign of respect to the more than 20 million Hispanic-Americans in the United States today.
