The University of
Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) has received its
second delivery order under the Air Force's
DESP II
contract, worth $986K over the FY07/08 year. Mr. Paul
Piechota, Executive Director of the Center for
Competitive Change, Human Factors Group (HFG), will
again serve as the Principal Investigator/Project
Manager for this effort. The project core purpose is to
develop and implement at Tinker AFB an expandable career
mapping solution in support of the Air Force Materiel
Command Scientist and Engineering (AFMC - S&E)
resources. This tool, Engineering Training and Knowledge
Preservation Solution (ETKPS) will provide much improved
efficiencies in the way S&E's plan, manage and execute
their careers. The second part of the project tool
focuses on creating a unique solution that begins with
the career development tool then adds the capability to
store, manage, sort and link critical Intellectual
Property of S&E work before it is lost to retirement,
promotions and the like. AFMC is currently in the front
end of a wave of S&E resources that are becoming
eligible for retirement. This wave of high-end,
knowledge workforce retirements could last over the next
3-5 years creating a void in work flow. The loss could
reach as high as 60% of its top scientists and
engineers.
The UDRI Team will consist of several of our own
talented resources from the Human Factors Group, lead by
Laurie Quill including Dave Kancler, HFG Analyst. Dave
will be one of the assigned co-task leads. Also joining
the team will be a strong UDRI Partner and DESP II
Sub-Contractor, TiER1 Performance Solutions. TiER1 is a
small business from Covington, KY, that focuses on
knowledge and solution accelerator development for
clients across many industries. This unique team brings
to the air Force all the talent, skill, knowledge and
tools required to quickly and successfully solve this
critical situation.
